Biography
Dieuseul Paul was born in 1952 in Damiens, a surburb of Port-au-Prince. He died July 27, 2006.
Dieuseul started to paint with the group "Saint Soleil" at Soisson-la-Montagne. This was a experimental movement started by Tiga and Maude. In December 1975, André Malraux was so impressed by the Saint Soleil Group that he added a last chapter in his book "Intemporel" to talk about this new Haitian "Art Brut" (Outsider Art) movement.
The Saint Soliel group broke up in 1979 and five from the group became Cinq Soliel, and Dieulseul was one of them. In 1988, Dieuseul showed his work at the Grand Palais in Paris and has been included in many exhibitions all over the world.
His work has been reproduced in several publications including:
Haiti: Art Naif, Art Vodou
Where Art is Joy, by Seldon Rodman
Dialogue du Reel et de I'Imaginaire
Intemporel by André Malraux
